Washing machine installation & moving

A proper installation saves you years of faults. The two that matter most: removing the transit bolts, and getting it level.

Washing machine installation & moving

Every new machine ships with transit bolts holding the tub still so it survives the journey. Run it without removing them and the vibration goes straight into the frame — which means an awful racket and early bearing damage.

The second step people skip is levelling. A machine that is off by a little walks across the floor and shakes on the spin. The feet adjust for exactly this reason, and we set them with a spirit level.

What you'll notice

  • A new machine that needs installing and connecting
  • Moving a machine between homes
  • Heavy vibration after a recent installation
  • The machine walking out of position on spin
  • A leak at the water connection after installation
  • Relocating the machine within the same home

Common causes

  • Transit bolts never removed after purchase
  • Feet not adjusted, or an uneven floor
  • The inlet hose not tightened, or fitted without a washer
  • The drain hose set too high or too low
  • The machine standing on a rug or a soft surface

How we fix it

  1. 1Removing the transit bolts and handing them to you (you will want them if you ever move it)
  2. 2Connecting the inlet hose and pressure-testing the joint
  3. 3Securing the drain hose at the correct height
  4. 4Setting the feet with a spirit level until the body sits dead still
  5. 5Running a short full cycle and watching for vibration and leaks

Questions about this repair

Most of the time it is transit bolts left in, or feet never adjusted. It is a quick check and the difference shows on the first spin.
